In September 2020, the number of poor people in East Java reached
4,585.97 thousand people (11.46 percent), an increase of 166.9 thousand
people compared to March 2020, which amounted to 4,419.10 thousand
people (11.09 percent) .

The percentage of poor people in September 2020, increased by 0.37
percentage points against March 2020. In urban areas, the percentage of
poor people increased by 0.48 percentage points, from 7.89 percent in
March 2020 to 8.37 percent in September 2020. Meanwhile, the percentage
of poor people in rural areas in March 2020 was 14.77 percent,
increasing to 15.16 percent in September 2020 (an increase of 0.39
percentage points).

During the period March - September 2020, the number of poor people in
urban areas increased by 138.0 thousand people (from 1,682.14 thousand
in March 2020 to 1,820.13 thousand in September 2020). Meanwhile, in
rural areas, it increased by 28.9 thousand (from 2,736.97 thousand in
March 2020 to 2,765.84 thousand in September 2020).

Food commodities in September 2020, had a role of 75.00 percent of the
poverty line, an increase compared to conditions in March 2020 which
played a role of 74.97 percent.
•
Several food commodities in September 2020 that contributed
significantly to the food poverty line, both in rural and urban areas,
namely rice, filter clove cigarettes, purebred chicken eggs, cayenne
pepper, purebred chicken, sugar, tempeh, tofu, and noodles instant.
• The average number of poor household members increased from 4.11 people in March 2020 to 4.30 people in September 2020.
